Bozzhyra Valley white cliffs tour

Bozzhyra TourMangystau White Cliffsby Private 4x4

Visit the signature landscape of Mangystau and the Ustyurt Plateau

Bozzhyra is the most famous landscape in Mangystau: white cliffs, desert viewpoints, silence, open horizons, and some of Kazakhstan’s strongest photography locations.

Bozzhyra Valley

Why Bozzhyra deserves its own tour

Bozzhyra, also commonly spelled Bozzhira, is often the image people remember from Mangystau: sharp white cliffs rising from the desert floor, long Ustyurt Plateau views, and viewpoints that change completely with the light.

It is remote enough that a private 4x4 route matters. A rushed visit can miss the best angles, while a well-planned route can include upper viewpoints, lower formations, sunset, camping, and nearby places such as Tuzbair or Bokty.

Sergey’s field note

Sergey recalls:

I take people first to the upper viewpoint, where Bozzhyra opens suddenly under your feet, the fangs, the white cliffs, the whole empty plateau. In photos it looks beautiful, but in real life it is much bigger, and much quieter. At sunset the white rock changes fast: first cream, then gold, then almost pink. One evening we arrived late and tired, nobody talking, and we walked to the edge just as the sun dropped.

Important to know

Typical guide price starts from €150 per person per day. Final quote depends on group size, service level, route and season.

Bozzhyra is remote, and road conditions can change. The route should be planned with enough buffer for driving, stops, weather, and the group’s pace.

Between the main viewpoints there can be about 60 km of dirt tracks, plus a steep descent if the route goes down toward the canyon floor. That is why a real 4x4 and an experienced driver matter: the best views are not all beside one easy road.

Camping near the route is useful when you want softer sunrise or sunset light instead of harsh midday sun. Multi-day routes can also combine Bozzhyra with Kyzylkup’s layered hills and Tuzbair’s salt-flat landscape.

High season usually runs from April 10 to the end of May, and from August 10 to October 20. Other dates are lower-demand season and can be more flexible.

Starlink Wi-Fi is free and included in all tours. Tell us before departure if internet access is important, so we bring the equipment.

For most travelers, Bozzhyra works best as part of a 3-day, 5-day, or 7-day Mangystau tour.
